Workshop: The Do’s and Don’ts for Building Soil-Health

February 20, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

$18

07_Soil_HealthWhether your passion is lawn, flowers, trees and shrubs, or vegetable gardens, all gardeners have one thing in common: they want their plants to be healthy and thriving. But plant health is strongly dependent on soil health – if soil isn’t healthy, plants won’t be either. Dr. Jean Reeder discusses what soil health is, how to build and maintain it, and which management practices to avoid that degrade soil health.

Dr. Reeder is a self-described “soils geek”. She worked 30 years for the USDA Agricultural Research Service as a soil scientist conducting research studies on the properties of rangeland and disturbed-land ecosystems in Colorado and Wyoming. Since retiring, she works as a consultant for the CSU Soil Testing Lab and as a soils instructor for the Colorado Master Gardener Program and the Denver Botanic Gardens’Rocky Mountain Gardening certification program. Her passion these days is helping gardeners understand as much about their soil as they do about their plants, and how to manage soil health to achieve healthy landscapes.
