Workshop: How to Grow a 2,000 lb. Pumpkin

Learn how to grow giant pumpkins with techniques geared specifically for the Colorado region. This course includes a monthly breakdown from ground prep to harvest, proven local watering methods, and which fertilizers and insecticides to use. You will also learn about the history of the giant pumpkin and cover the topics of indoor greenhouse growing, seed breeding and genetics.

Pete Mohr is the president of the Northern Colorado Giant Pumpkin Growers and has 12 years of experience growing giant pumpkins in Colorado. His accolades include the Colorado state record holder for giant pumpkin (1306 pounds) in 2010 and the #2 all-time record for Colorado giant green squash (905 pounds), and has been pivotal in helping develop Fort Collins Nursery’s own Giant Pumpkin Contest(Our 2015 event was a blast!). Pete also holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Colorado.
