DESCRIPTION:Accessible Gardening\nPresented by Mason Vollmer\nDetails: \n\nDate: Sunday\, January 22\nDoors: 12:15 pm\nClass: 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm\nTickets: $18\nFood & drinks will not be provided but you are welcome to bring your own.\n\n  \nCourse Description: \nHorticultural Educator Mason Vollmer will present on Accessible Gardening that shows techniques on how to bring gardening closer to people of all ages and abilities by using various container strategies and staging\, wheelchair accessible greenhouse design\, raised beds\, and dwarf fruit trees. \nIncorporating strategies for greater garden accessibility will not only extend the ease of gardening to folks of all ages\, abilities\, and mobility\, but also includes: vertical space-saving techniques\, containers and raised beds that can be protected against pests\, incorporate water saving systems\, and season-extension covers. We will also look at adaptive tools and what makes a good tool good. \n\nThis presentation will give an overview of accessible gardening techniques Mason has used with school children\, seniors\, and folks with mobility challenges. Students will explore the fascinating world of medicinal plant science from the perspective of seed science. We will learn practical medicinal plant information and engage in hands-on seed-starting techniques as well as dive into the science and art of designing a backyard garden that will serve as a pharmacy for you and your family’s needs. We will cover scenario planning\, site and soil considerations\, individual needs\, and agroecology. Attendees will leave with resources to help them grow!  \n  \nPresented by Amy Kousch: \nAmy Kousch has been farming beyond organic herbs\, flowers\, and vegetables for a decade in both Colorado and New England. Having owned and managed several diversified operations\, she founded Berchta Botanicals three years ago as a medicinal plant nursery\, herb farm\, and research and education center. Along with propagating native\, at-risk\, and geographically far-flung plant medicine\, Berchta Botanicals serves the community as a medicinal plant cultivation education center.  Amy has a Bachelor’s degree in natural resources and a Master’s degree in agricultural sciences with a concentration in sustainable agriculture education from Colorado State University.
