She attended Iowa State University and The Ohio State University\, majoring in horticulture\, and completed her Ph.D. at Colorado State University in 2014\, studying nursery tree production and landscape establishment. This ninety minute course covers the basics of home composting and advanced management techniques from the Compost Queen herself. By the end of the course\, you’ll understand how to properly locate a compost pile\, manage feedstocks\, process organics and how to use your finished materials. Whether you’re a total beginner or seasoned soil scientist\, this course will improve your home composting and collections.  \nJamie Blanchard-Poling\n  \nPresented by Jamie Blancard-Poling \nStarted in 2018\, Compost Queen is the local composting service created by Jamie Blanchard-Poling\, a longtime environmental steward and nature lover. Inspired by her passion for renewable energy and zero waste\, Jamie started Compost Queen to provide Northern Colorado with an achievable option for home composting. Compost Queen has won Small Compost Manufacturer of the Year from the United States Composting Council\, and Jamie has previously served as the Co-Chair of the Colorado Composting Council. Looking to add some color and texture to your yard? Consider a spigot-to-drip setup that can operate from a homes’ water spigot. Several companies have drip kits designed just for this\, they are easy to set up and work well to deliver consistent water to the planting bed and make your landscape shine with color and support our local wildlife. Whether using a kit or building a custom system\, drip irrigation is a great way to create a space in the landscape to bring you peace\, solitude and explore the “life after lawn” benefits. \n  \nPresented by Eric Olson \nEric Olson is the Irrigation Specialist at Fort Collins Utilities and has been with the City of Fort Collins since 2007. He created the commercial landscape and irrigation standards for water conservation which have been adapted by several Colorado municipalities and cities. Eric reviews irrigation plans for commercial developments and assists residents as they transform their irrigation systems to improve efficiency and reduce water demands on the landscape. He is certified in irrigation design\, irrigation auditing and backflow protection. Eric is a retired Certified Water Professional (CWP) and is currently in his 16th year as an instructor for The Irrigation Association. Learn photographic principles and fundamental elements to improve your plant photography throughout the year. The class will include tips for beautiful\, successful images\, available tools you can use (some of which you likely have at home)\, and considerations in making your images. We’ll venture into the greenhouse for a workshop\, using what we learned. Bring whatever you’d like to take pictures with to class! \n*Attendees will take photos in our greenhouse.
