SUMMARY:The Wonder of the Spring Garden
DESCRIPTION:Course Description: \nFew things are as exciting as the first signs of life and color after a long winter. Learn about great plants that brave the early season to show off their best. These plants also offer life-saving nectar and pollen to help insects and birds survive unpredictable spring weather and to nourish their first broods\, making spring bloomers among the most important garden plants both for our enjoyment and the web of life. \nPresented by Lauren Springer Ogden: \nLauren Springer Ogden is a long-time NoCo resident and teacher at Fort Collins Nursery’s winter workshops. She is author of several garden books and has introduced numerous plants to the nursery trade. Her public garden designs include major planting areas at the Denver Botanic Gardens\, Chatfield Farms\, and The Gardens on Spring Creek where she is on staff. \nExperience Level: Beginner-Advanced \nClick here to register

SUMMARY:Dwarf Conifers You’ll Grow to Love
DESCRIPTION:Course Description: \nFebruary in Northern Colorado is a perfect time to take a close look at your gardens to see where extra textures and shapes would add interest\, beauty and shelter for songbirds and smaller wildlife. This workshop will focus on dwarf and smaller forms of familiar conifers\, as well as a few you may have never heard of. From fir to pines\, you’ll discover garden-sized conifers that are truly dwarf yet hardy and adaptable to our conditions. Learn which plants to avoid\, which to fall in love with\, and how to be successful with the plants you choose. \nPresented by Pat Hayward: \nPat Hayward\, former Executive Director of Plant Select\, has been involved in the regional horticultural industry for 40 years. Two-time winner of the Colorado Nursery & Greenhouse Association Nursery Person of the Year award\, she’s presented on a variety of horticultural topics at dozens of regional and national conferences. \nDuring her 5-year stint as a salesperson at Iseli Nursery in Boring OR she discovered the beauty and wide range of thousands of conifer varieties being sold across the country. Returning to northern Colorado 21 years ago\, she and her husband Joel have now trialed hundreds of taxa in their gardens in the foothills west of Fort Collins\, learning as much from their failures as their successes. In addition to this class\, she teaches a popular\, all-day conifer workshop at Denver Botanic Gardens. With her husband\, they constantly seek out new varieties to test and evaluate for local gardeners. \nExperience Level: Intermediate \nClick here to register
